Balmain, which was founded in 1945, has recently become known for its rock star glamour and amped-up military style, with sophisticated quality and finishing.
A fashion house founded by Pierre Balmain in 1946. When Balmain died in 1982, the maison was directed by Erik Mortensen, who will be followed by Oscar de la Renta who directed it between 1993 and 2001, leading it to be a highly recognisable brand and a great market success. Then Christophe Decarnin, who has given a more modern and angular cut to the Balmain brand, an operation that has not weakened Balmain's allure, and the current creative director Olivier Roustening, who is only twenty-seven, have followed.
Despite the shifts and changes of direction, the Balmain brand is always a favourite among stars like Angelina Jolie, Penelope Cruz and Kate Moss.
Last season the "Pierre Balmain" men and women's line made its debut, bearing the same name of the brand's founder; it is designed by an independent creative team and is aimed at a much more casual, relaxed and contemporary international market, while maintaining the brand's style.
